Hey, I still remember the password to this thing! Here are my picks for all the major film categories come this Tuesday night, with red indicating who I think will win, and an asterisk denoting my personal pick. BEST DRAMA: Despite the presence of two blockbuster behemoth sequels that saved 2022's box office, I think the only thing close to topping Elvis is Spielberg's movie memoir of his childhood. The HFPA are known to love the bigger, flashier choice of the nominees (see: Revenant, Bohemian Rhapsody and 1917 's victories just in the past decade), and I wouldn't be mad at all at Baz Luhrmann's gloriously dizzying look at the King's downfall. It's that time of year again where I remember I have this blog and write out my predictions for the (maybe not being aired??) Golden Globes! Even though they've both gotten polarizing reviews, they come from awards season titans, so I do believe Adam McKay's Don't Look Up and Aaron Sorkin's Being the Ricardos  will pick up some nominations. I'm also wishfully hoping that after drudging through 2021, the Globes will focus on the feel-good, with crowd-pleaser King Richard , lovably weepie CODA and Branagh's childhood memoir Belfast all vying for Best Drama. The Globes also love Lin-Manuel Miranda (as do I) and I think may be the only major awards organization to recognize him in the director slot, but I wouldn't be sad! Speaking of Lin, it is been a wonderful year for the musical, box office be damned, and I personally cannot wait to see the West Side Story remake after the glowing reviews! As predicted, there were some fresh, diverse faces present in the list! Let's take a look and see who's up!  BEST COMEDY/MUSICAL: La La Land predictably picked up quite a few nominations, but of course the most stunning surprise here is the presence of the Merc with the Mouth! I almost pegged Reynolds for a Deadpool nomination, but I thought it was too far-fetched. The indie everyone's fallen in love with, Sing Street , was this year's little film that could that only garnered one nomination, but in a big category.  La La Land Florence Foster Jenkins 20th Century Women Deadpool Sing Street BEST DRAMA: David Mackenzie's neo-western has been targeted for Oscar love ever since its late August release, and with several nominations here it's apparent. The highly Oscar-bait looking Lion also did quite well in its categories, and hey, if it can net Dev Patel the Academy Award nod he was robbed of in Slumdog , let it happen! Some things change in the Golden Globes, some will always remain the same. For instance, I expect to see some color in the Crayola Box of nominees this year, with strong contenders like Moonlight and Fences sure to go toe to toe in the dramatic categories. What's unsurprising: seeing Globes favorites Amy Adams and the unstoppable awards magnet Meryl Streep in their respective categories. Florence Foster Jenkins has weirdly been getting a lot of buzz, and I just don't get it...is it because Streep's in it? But I'm getting ahead of myself, the nominations don't come out 'til this Monday the 12th! Down below is some educated guesses, but mostly stabbing in the dark. BEST COMEDY/MUSICAL: (The Globes are infatuated with the Coens, and their latest Hail, Caesar! will be the one movie that gets the best picture nod with nothing else. The rest are probably going to be a gaggle of indies, no offense Office Christmas Party , but I'll call right now that La La Land ...

This is just a straightforward list of predictions for the eleven major film awards! I will make my should win/could win predictions once it gets closer to the actual Oscar night, but since Oscar tends to stick fairly close to the Foreign Press, I'll save it for later. For now, I'm going to predict who's taking the gold home, and how this will determine the Academy Awards! A full list of the nominees HERE. BEST ANIMATED MOVIE: Nominees: ( Big Hero 6 , How to Train Your Dragon 2 , The Lego Movie , The Boxtrolls , The Book of Life ) Winner: This isn't because it was my second favorite movie of the year, but I honestly believe that if any movie but Lego wins it will be an upset. I love HTTYD2 , but this seems like the frontrunner. In some ways, the Globes surprised me quite a bit, and in others, they couldn't be more predictable! With four real life biopics heading the drama category, you could only help but see that coming. But in the comedy category there are a lot of surprises: a movie up for best comedy that I'd only barely heard of, and a few nominees that I'd completely forgotten about. Along with endless Christmas music, the one thing you can always count on in December is awards season being there for you, and the Golden Globe nominations come out tomorrow! Even though it had a summer release, Richard Linklater's coming of age epic Boyhood is starting to become the frontrunner for Best Picture! Others, in the acting categories, include Michael Keaton, Julianne Moore, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette. I'm throwing a few surprises and hopefuls in there, just for the sake of spicing up the selection, because I can already tell that the biopic will once again be reigning this Oscar season, with everyone from MLK to Stephen Hawking getting a treatment. Wow! Nothing was what it seemed last night at the Globes! Tina and Amy predictably killed as hosts, but the film award snubs and surprises are what got my attention. McConaughey winning for "Dallas Buyers Club?" Jennifer Lawrence beating Lupita Nyong'o for supporting actress?!? Things didn't make proper sense until "12 Years a Slave" won the big award of the night, best drama, its only prize. Truth be told, if you look at my predictions right below this post, I got 8/11 right, which isn't a terrible ratio! My thoughts on the awards show with a lot of 7 second delays, rambling speeches, and endless shots of people running to the stage because they sat the TV people so far away! Well, my nomination predictions weren't too hot, but the Globes do tend to switch up genres without notice. ("Before Midnight" a comedy? "Llewyn Davis" a comedy/musical?) But now that it's been established, watch as  I attempt to navigate the major awards wins this Sunday. A list of all the nominees are HERE . DRAMA: ACTOR: There's no weak link here, but Ejiofor is expected to blow everyone out of the water for his performance of an unjustly kidnapped slave. But points for the Globes' originality: Idris Elba's Mandela was a left-field choice. ACTRESS: British modern legends dominate this category, and if it was up to me the prize would be Blanchett's for her arresting, spot-on American, whiny performance, but I see Hollywood rewarding Bullock for her turn as a panting astronaut (I'm kidding, she was great, too). My Golden Globe predictions were off. I'm the first to admit it. I got three right in the drama category, and ONE right for comedy/musical! How was I supposed to know "Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Hustle" were going to be considered comedies? Technically though, I did get all of the animated nominees right, since the Globes surprised me by just nominating three. The one I claimed to be the front runner, "The Wind Rises," was put into the foreign film category instead, "Monsters U" was downright snubbed! I think it's "Frozen's" prize to lose. Looking back on my 2012 predictions....I really didn't do too shabby! I'm taking my predictions now, the snowed-in Tuesday before the nominations announcement this Thursday, where last year I got all but three right more than a month before the announcements. Hurray for being increasingly less reliable and accurate! This really is one of the hardest awards shows to call....for comedy. There are literally 25 movies that could be eligible to be put into the five slots and I wouldn't be surprised at all. This Oscar race is riDICULOUS. So don't expect too many accurate picks in comedy...or even the overstuffed drama category. My money's actually only with animated film... Bale needs a Globe for this picture alone in "Hustle" BEST DRAMA: 12 Years a Slave (all right, this and the next movie will indeed be easy to predict. The glorious leaves splattered around the ground aren't the only reason I love the fall-into-winter season: award's season starts soon!  The Golden Globes will be announced in less than a month, and I'm ready to try my luck at guessing at the major categories, comedy, drama, and animated movie naturally.  This will all unfold soon, but I love taking a crack at what will be a really heated race, though the only definite is Daniel Day-Lewis taking home his third Oscar for portraying Abraham Lincoln!  Let's see! Was there ever a Golden Globes before Ricky Gervais?  It doesn't seem like it, or anything memorable anyways.  If we're talking awards shows, and this is including the MTV Movie Awards, the Golden Globes are the weird uncle of the three.  You hear about it on the news, see the highlights on YouTube the week after...but who really watches it?  I actually do, but only because I care about the nominees because they indicate who'll be up for an Oscar.  90% of the people walking home with a Globe is also going home with another, cooler golden statue the next month.
