My first blog

I gotta say this is pretty sweet. I like just writing and stuff, mostly about movies, which I really enjoy, so expect movie reviews and everything. Just a blog to fill time.

REVIEW: THE HEAT

I have to confess the only thing I'd ever seen Melissa McCarthy up to this point was her hilarious guest appearances on "SNL," the peak performances trumping with her physical slapstick. I've always wanted to see "Bridesmaids" to see that Oscar-nominated performance of hers, but in all honesty, "Identity Thief" and "Mike & Molly" looked silly to me, and I never watched "Samantha Who" or "Gilmore Girls." All I had to judge on was reviews claiming she carried "The Heat" on her shoulders, and those choice over-the-top delicious roles on "SNL." The verdict: she's hysterical. Indeed McCarthy does something fascinating: everything coming out of her mouth is nearly always funny (to the degree of  funny is debatable), profane and rapidly paced. She is the sole reason the movie works, well, to give her co-star credit, the chemistry between her and Sandra Bullock is pretty darn good too. In a bett...

Here's a sad thought: We haven't seen Will Smith on the big screen for three and a half years!  That's insane!  For me, though, Smith is omnipresent in the media world, what with his son starring in a decent karate remake, his daughter winning over the world by whipping her hair around, and those "Fresh Prince" reruns you see on TBS all the time.  The last time I saw Smith was on New Year's Day of 2009 , (don't ask me how I remember) when I went to go see him in "Seven Pounds," which was critically bashed but I thought was pleasantly mediocre. But that still isn't fair, Will!  Don't be so selfish, share yourself with the rest of the world! Welcome back, Will! I kid, but the movie season has seemed a little more lonelier with the absence of critic/audience pleasers like "I Am Legend" and "The Pursuit of Happyness," both of which are classics by teenage standards.  You can't blame Smith; however, he's a fam...

I...don't know what this blog is anymore. Now that I'm over doing movie reviews and have been more interested in writing theatrical pieces...I still have my interest in awards shows! Bold indicates a winner in that category. If the president was largely known by his initials, I have chosen that moniker. For presidents with identical last names, I have written their full names out as they were known in their presidency.  TONY AWARDS BEST ACTOR IN A PLAY: Ralph Bellamy in Sunrise at Campobello (1958) as FDR Sam Waterson in Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1994) as Lincoln Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon (2007) as Nixon Bryan Cranston in All the Way (2014) as LBJ BEST FEATURED ACTOR IN A MUSICAL: William Daniels in 1776  (1969) as John Adams Daveed Diggs in Hamilton  (2016) as Jefferson Christopher Jackson in Hamilton  (2016) as Washington ACADEMY AWARDS BEST LEADING ACTOR: Raymond Massey in Abe Lincoln in Illinois  (1940) as Lincoln Alexander Knox in Wilson  (1944) as ...
